We first saw the baby February 17, 2004. This is only the second baby kookaburra we've seen. It's not as fearless as the first one seen here. It appears to be a bit younger. |
A group of 5 adult kookaburras visit daily and they all feed the baby. Sometimes 2 will be feeding it at the same time, a little confusing for the baby. |
When the adult decides to give the baby some food (usually the adult eats first), it will call the baby, even if the baby is only a foot away. |

The baby is calling most of the time and it gets rather noisy. Love it. |

It's very difficult to get a good photo. It was about 10 feet away from the camera in this photo. I can hear it calling now as I type. |
Earlier today it was sitting on our pool fence with its mother. I saw the mother dive into the pool and was concerned that the baby might copy her. Thankfully, it didn't. |
